Company Scope
Welding Inspection
Welding inspection is the use of technological methods and actions to test and assure the quality and correctness of a weld after it is completed.
Welding procedure specifications (WPS)
A welding procedure specification is the formal written document describing welding procedures, which provides direction to the welder operators for making sound and quality production welds as per the code requirements. The purpose of the document is to guide welders to the accepted procedures so that repeatable and trusted welding techniques are used. A WPS is developed for each material alloy and for each welding type used. A WPS is supported by a Procedure Qualification Record (PQR).
Procedure Qualification Record (PQR)
A procedure qualification record is a record of a test weld performed and tested (more rigorously) to ensure that the procedure will produce a good weld. A PQR has details of the welding variables used to produce an acceptable test weldment and the results of tests conducted on the weldments to qualify a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). The qualification of welding procedures involves four operations, the preparation and welding of suitable samples, N.D.T. and/or destructive testing of samples, evaluation of over-all preparation, welding, testing and end result, and approval.
Welder/Operator Qualification Test Record (WQTR)
Individual Welders/Operators are certified with a qualification test documented in a Welder Qualification Test Record (WQTR) that shows they have the understanding and demonstrated ability to work within the specified WPS, Welder/Operator qualification tests determining the ability to those tested to produce acceptable sound welds with the processes materials and procedures that are to be used in production. Qualification tests are one of the controls that assist in obtaining satisfactory welds in finished products. The various codes, specifications and government rules generally prescribe the methods or details for qualifying welder/operators. Material Testing and Inspection services offers the service to carry our Welder/Operator qualification in accordance with the appropriate code requirements.
